The Police plans for Manchester Demonstration and March. Sat 2nd March 2013.

The English Defence League (EDL) is planning to hold a demonstration in Manchester on Saturday 2 March 2013.

We are working with Greater Manchester Police to ensure that this event causes the minimum of disruption to all members of the community.

There will be the following road closures on day:

•5.00am to 6.00pm – Albert Square, from the junction of Mount St. and Peter St. to the Junction of Cross St. and Princess St.

•1.00pm to 4.00pm – Princess St. to Cooper St.
•1.00pm to 4.00pm – Lloyd St, from its junction with Deansgate to Albert Square and Southmill (from its junction with Lloyd St. to its junction with Peter St.

Further to our previous post regarding the planned EDL March in Manchester on Saturday 2nd March, we will be posting some frequently asked questions and answers to respond to any concerns or queries you may have regarding the march.

Why are the EDL coming to Manchester?

Their given reason was initially that this is a national coming together to support their cause. The EDL is a disjointed organisation and this is seen as an opportunity for a fresh start. However their rationale can change frequently.

Why are they being allowed to march?

The EDL will not be marching through Manchester. Their meeting point is Water Street and at an agreed time, they will then be moved in a controlled fashion from this meeting point to the demonstration site in Albert Square. The police will facilitate this controlled movement to ensure that the group stay together and don’t break away into smaller groups. When they arrive at the demonstration site they will be placed within a cordoned off area where they will remain until the end of the demonstration.

Yours sincerely
